Baccarat

Baccarat: Punto vs. Banco, Made famous by Ian Fleming's James Bond, baccarat is at once a simple game of chance, yet it can be a game played for extremely high stakes... Following are the game rules.

Practice Baccarat:

The casino card game baccarat, or punto banco, is played on a special table that contains up to three dealers and 12-14 players. Players face off individually against the bankers and place their bets on one of three betting areas - Player (or Punto), Bank (or Banco), or Tie (Standoff). Although three betting areas exist, the Tie or Standoff bet is rarely used.

Prior to the initial deal, players place their bets on the Banker or Dealer to win, or a Tie. The dealer then deals the cards for each round, although some casinos permit the players to do so. Player or dealer deals two cards face down onto each of the card windows labeled Banker or Player.

Following the initial deal, the cards are turned over by the dealer and play then switches to a draw table. This specifies whether further cards should be drawn according to each participant's card point counts.

While the odds may initially appear to favor bank and player equally, most players normally bet on the bank. In fact, the bank has a better statistical chance of winning the game according to the built in odds of the draw table. The odds of a tie are the lowest of the three options, although the more favorable odds do encourage the real gamblers to go for this gamble.

The payoff for a correct bet on player or banker is an even return or 1:1, while a win on the Tie is 8:1 or 9:1. The downside to betting on the banker is that the casino normally levies a 5% commission rate, which makes the casino's traditional edge. This levy was incorporated due to the observation that with a 6 to 8-deck shoe, the bank will win three to four hands more than the player, on average.

After the cards are dealt and flipped by the dealer, and there is a clear winning decision, one of the casino dealers announces who has won the game. For example, if either hand contains a point total of 8 or 9, then no more cards are dealt. If, however, the point total comes to an amount that requires the dealing of a third card, then that card is added to the table. Once all cards have been dealt, an overall winner is announced and payouts made.
