Looking back at an exciting year of online gambling in Singapore, and looking ahead to 2010.
This year proved to be a big year for the gaming community in the Garden City-State with the continued growth of the poker community, the construction of the island's first two casinos and the release of some new, exciting online casino games. Here's a brief look at what happened.
In July, Singaporean poker player, Bryan Huang, managed to take out the Charity Event of the summer PokerStars Macau Poker Cup held. The tournament featured five events and a HK $1 million guaranteed Red Dragon Main Event. The Charity Event benefited local social service agency Caritas Macau.
As a result of the joint venture between William Hill Poker and gaming software provider Playtech being completed in April, there are now a wider range of games, tournaments and features on the poker room. There is even a 3D graphic interface and some attractive, new reward schemes.
New Games for the Holiday Season
Microgaming has just released four new games in time for the holiday festivities - 'Scrooge', 'Ho Ho Ho', 'Gift Wrap' and 'Santa Paws' - which are all based around Christmas themes. Scrooge is a 50-line video slot that features the characters Ebenezer Scrooge, Jacob Marley and Tiny Tim from Charles Dicken's 'A Christmas Carol'.

The highly anticipated opening of the Marina Bay Sands Resort has now been delayed once again and is expected to take place in April or June next year. Rising construction costs and shortages of raw materials and manpower have been cited as the cause of the delay.
The second new casino to open in Singapore next year, Resort World Sentosa, is also in its final phases of construction. However, more than 28,000 Singaporeans who are bankrupt or receiving government aid have reportedly been banned from the two casinos.
Looking Forward to 2010
Poker players can also look forward to the 2010 Singapore Poker Tour which is being promoted as one of the biggest No Limit Texas Hold'em Tournament in Singapore with the largest guaranteed winner prize money and highest number of participants ever.
Video slot players can also look forward to the release of Hellboy on 14 January by JackpotCity Casino which is powered by Microgaming. The theme is based on a comic book from the nineties by Mike Mignola and features its iconic characters as Professor Trevor Bruttenholm, Johann Krause, Abe Sapien and Liz Sherman. Hellboy is a 5 reel, 20 payline, and multiple coin game, with a wild and scatters that triggers a 4 Level Bonus Feature.
